This Post-doctoral position is a joint position between the University of Warwick,http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/, and the University of Tongji (Shanghai, China),http://civileng.tongji.edu.cn/en/. The successful candidate will be formally employed by the University of Tongji in Prof. Jiang’s group (http://geotec.tongji.edu.cn/selfpage/jiangmj/MingjingJiang.htm) although he or she will be seconded at the University of Warwick throughout the duration of the contract working with Dr Utili’s research group http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/eng/staff/su/.
The successful candidate will employ the Discrete Element Method to investigate the effect of fracking on the generation of cracks and the progressive increase of rock porosity by simulating the progressive breakage of bonds binding rock minerals induced by fluid pressure.
Requirements
The candidate will hold a PhD in civil engineering, or earth sciences or a related area. Experience of numerical modelling with a Discrete Element Method code (open source or commercial one) is desirable. Preference will be given to candidate with previous research experience in subjects related to fracking.
