Department Description
The Measurement Science & Engineering department (1535) is a multi-disciplinary group that participates in large and small-scale transient event lab and field testing for systems of national importance. We are made up of electrical, systems, mechanical, and optical technical staff and technologists. Our work includes measurement R&D, electrical design, systems engineering, optical measurements, data collection and data analysis.

Job Description
R&D S&E, Electrical Engine SE
An opening exists for an experienced Electrical/Measurement Engineer to join our team. The selected candidate will be part of the an electrical engineering team that provides system level electrical analysis, electrical hardware design, signal acquisition, signal processing, and evaluation for test hardware. The ideal candidate will have strong traditional electrical engineering base (circuit design and analysis) and a thorough knowledge of measurement devices, and signal effects in various field environments and configurations. Tests are carried out at Sandia and occasionally at off-site facilities. This job has both laboratory and outdoor field test activities. This is a high performing and cohesive team. We use formal (but not bureaucratic) Systems Engineering principles and processes to insure we deliver high quality and safe engineering solutions for high consequence tests.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Advanced technical degree. Technical knowledge and competencies appropriate to the position. Thorough knowledge of and applied experience with scientific and engineering methods and with the discipline's standards for the ethical conduct of research. Thorough knowledge of and experience with designing, planning, and executing research, design, and development projects. Demonstrated ability to team across disciplines.

Required
--MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering or closely related field --Minimum 3 years of technical engineering experience --Experience using PSPICE or similar design and analysis tool --Experience designing assembly and subassembly level electrical hardware --Experience taking product performance requirements and writing electrical requirements --Experience with collection and analysis of signals from force, pressure, acceleration, strain, and temperature transducers.

Desired
--Skill and experience in creating grounding trees and electrical circuit architectures --Formal requirements training --Electrical hardware packaging experience --Experience in CDU Firing System design --Experience managing interfaces, requirements, and integrated testing --Working knowledge of optical and mechanical engineering

Security Clearance
Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE)-granted Q-level security clearance. Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment background review that includes personal reference checks, law enforcement record and credit checks, and employment and education verifications. Applicants for employment must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship.
