Employer: University of Copenhagen
Date Posted: 10/06/2014
Application Deadline: 10/31/2014
Job Description
One postdoctoral stipend is available in the Proteomics Technology Development & Application group at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR – www.cpr.ku.dk). The Center has been established at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to promote basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of medical relevance. The Center comprises a wide range of expertise and resources including proteomics, protein production and characterization to disease mechanisms. The proteomics section is headed by Prof. Dr. Matthias Mann, and the “Proteomics Technology Development & Application” group is lead by Group Leader Dr. Michael L. Nielsen. By joining our team, you will be part of a young and dynamic team consisting of international researchers. The Nielsen group focuses on developing novel proteomics methods & technologies for studying the cellular outcomes at a ‘systems-level’, with the aim to understand cellular phenotypes and diseases. To this end, we employ cutting-edge mass spectrometry (MS)-based technologies for developing unbiased proteomics methods for identification and quantification of post-translational modifications (PTMs), such as ubiquitylation, arginine methylation and ADP-ribosylation (Danielsen et al, MCP, 2011; Sylvestersen et al, COCB, 2013; Sylvestersen et al, MCP, 2014; Jungmichel et al, Mol Cell, 2013) and other cellular signalling molecules like phophoinositides (Jungmichel et al, Cell Reports, 2014).

Project Description
Recently, we have improved mass spectrometry-based proteomics methods for unbiased analysis of various post-translational modifications (Jungmichel et al, Mol Cell., 2013; Sylvestersen et al, MCP, 2014; Tessarz et al, Nature, 2014; Christophorou et al, Nature, 2014). The applicant is expected to use cutting-edge proteomic technology for characterization of post-translational modifications in mammalian cell systems, and to perform biological follow-up experiments on novel and interesting findings derived from these proteomic screens. However, candidates interested in developing novel proteomic technologies are also encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate should be able to conduct independent and creative research, demonstrate scientific productivity, and show good inter-personal and communication skills.
Projected start date: Fall 2014/Spring 2015 or later.
Qualifications
The candidate is required to have PhD or equivalent degree in natural or medical science.
Excellent scientific track record, including at least one publication as first author in a high quality, peer reviewed international journal.
Prior experience in research fields related to post-translational modifications, such as poly-ADP-ribosylation, arginine methylation, or othes would be considered a distinct advantage.
Prior experience in high resolution mass spectrometry is not essential, but would be considered an advantage.
Good communication skills, both oral and written.
An analytical aptitude for devising innovative scientific or technical solutions.
Demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility and confidence.
Place of employment and work
The employment is at CPR (www.cpr.ku.dk), University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. The research environment at CPR is vibrant, ambitious, and international, with approx. 30 different nationalities currently represented. The Center comprises modern laboratories and state-of-the-art facilities within protein science. Seminars with high-profile international speakers and regular internal research seminars are organized at the Center.
Terms of salary and employment
Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. Currently, the monthly salary is around 31,800 – 33,500 DKK (around 4,250€) plus 17.1 % in pension contribution.
