The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £33,353 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.
Applications are invited for a Research Associate to join Dr Paola Bonfanti’s team in the section of Stem Cell and Regenerative Medicine at the UCL Institute of Child Health.
The post is funded by the European Research Council (ERC).
The Research Associate, with a strong background in cellular immunology and stem cell biology, will work on a multidisciplinary project aiming to reconstruct a functional thymus both in humans and in large animals.
The main focus of the team is to reconstruct a functional thymus by repopulating the decellularized organ with in vitro selected, expanded and characterised thymic stromal cells. The reconstituted organ will be challenged, in bio-reractors and in vivo, for its ability to support T cell maturation. The project aims at creating a tolerogenic environment to educate T cell precursors and induce tolerance for immune suppression free organ transplantation and also for treating autoimmune diseases.
This post is initially offered for 12 months
Applicants must hold a PhD in the field of molecular and cell biology with experience in rodent and/or human immunology. Experience with primary cell culture, fluorescent-activated cell sorting (FACS), and microscopy.
The ideal candidate will have the ability to work collaboratively and as part of a team but be able to function independently and effectively without supervision. He/She must have excellent spoken and written English and have the ability to efficiently organise his/her work.
The Applicants should be able to present work at Section meetings and Scientific Conferences, participate in writing papers and grant applications relating to the project.
