Postdoctoral Fellow: iPSC modeling of neurological diseases & therapeutics : Chicago, IL, United States
We are looking for outstanding candidates to join the Lab of Stem Cell Biology and Neurodegeneration directed by Dr. Evangelos Kiskinis at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Department of Neurology at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL.
The broad objective of our lab is to understand the nature of the degenerative processes that drive neurological disease. We are particularly interested in Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Epileptic syndromes as well as the age-associated changes that take place in the central nervous system (CNS). We pursue this objective primarily by creating in vitro models of disease that enable us to screen and identify relevant therapeutics. We utilize patient-specific induced pluripotent stem cells and direct reprogramming methods to generate different neuronal subtypes of the human CNS. We then study these cells by a combination of genomic approaches and functional physiological assays.
Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree with at least 3 years of proven research experience as well as at least one first author publication. Expertise in iPSC biology, neuroscience, RNA-seq, electrophysiology, optogenetics, MATALAB programming and stem cell biology are highly encouraged.
Feinberg Medical School is superbly located in the downtown Chicago area, a few minutes away from Lake Michigan as well as the Shopping and Restaurants of the Magnificent Mile. Salaries are highly competitive. Northwestern University is an Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action Employer of all protected classes, including veterans and individuals with disabilities. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Hiring is contingent upon eligibility to work in the United States.
