Postdoc in Software Engineering

The Software Engineering Research Group at the University of Klagenfurt in Austria is looking for a

Postdoc in Software Engineering (m/f)

The group is part of the Institute of Informatics-Systems, Faculty of Technical Sciences and led by Prof. Dr. Martin Pinzger. The position is full-time and limited to 4 years. The minimum salary is € 3.546,- before taxes (14 x per year). The envisioned starting date is March 1st, 2016.

The Software Engineering Research Group performs research and teaching of methods, techniques, and tools to improve the development and evolution of software systems regarding their quality and costs. The current key research topics comprise: software evolution, program understanding, mining software repositories, software quality, and software testing. You will work in a dedicated, international team at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt that collaborates with national and international partners in research and industry.

Tasks comprise:

  • Acquisition and leading of research projects
  • Performing independent research
  • Publication and presentation of research results
  • Giving courses and supervision of students
  • Participation in administrative and organizational tasks of the institute

Requirements for candidates are:

  • Finished Master or Diploma degree and a very good dissertation in the area of software engineering
  • Strong background in one or more of the following areas
    • Software maintenance and evolution
    • Software quality assurance
    • Mining software repositories
    • Deep learning
  • Good command of written and spoken English and German or the willingness to learn the languages within the first year of employment

Desired are:

  • Subject-specific international and practical experience
  • Teaching experience and didactic skills
  • Relevant international publications in the area of software engineering
  • Experience in acquiring funding for research projects
  • Good social and communication skills

Senior Scientist without Doctoral Degree (m/f)

in the Software Engineering Research Groupled by Prof. Dr. Martin Pinzger at the Institute of Informatics Systems, Faculty of Technical Sciences. The employment rate for this position is 75% (Uni-KV: B1) and the position is limited to 1.5 years with the possibility of an extension by 6 months. The minimum salary is € 1.997,20 before taxes (14 times a year), subject to increase according to relevant previous experience. The envisioned starting date is as soon as possible.

Project Assistant in the Safe-RTSE project

The Software Engineering Research Group at the University of Klagenfurt in Austria is seeking an enthusiastic

Project Assistant

interested in obtaining a PhD degree in the area of safe round-trip engineering of large, complex software systems. The position is full-time and limited to three years. The minimum salary is € 2.662,90 before taxes (14 x per year). The potential starting date is as soon as possible.

The position is in the research project SAFE-RTSE funded by the Austrian FFG under the Bridge 1 program. This project provides candidates with the opportunity to do a PhD in an international renowned team led by the Software Engineering Research Group in collaboration with XAutomata Technology GmbH and the Italian Università Politecnica delle Marche.

Tasks comprise:

  • Investigation of a software re-engineering methodology for (ERP) legacy systems, based on rewriting logic
  • Development of research prototypes providing knowledge extraction as well as refactoring techniques
  • Evaluation of the methodology and prototypes in industry
  • Publication and presenting the research results
  • Writing the PhD thesis

Requirements for candidates are:

  • Master’s degree in computer science or informatics
  • Profound knowledge in one or more of the following areas
    • Re-engineering
    • Formal methods in software engineering
    • Software quality
  • Good command of written and spoken English

Desired are:

  • Experiences with formal specifications
  • Experiences with performing empirical studies
  • Good communicator, strong social skills, and team player
