Job Title: Post-doctoral Research Assistant (Statistics/Quantitative Analyst)
Location: Population Health Sciences Division, Mackenzie Building.
Reporting to: Professor Bruce Guthrie
Contract: Full-time, fixed term for one year

Appointment as a Postdoctoral Research Assistant on the Grade 7 salary scale is dependent upon you having been awarded a PhD. An appointment may be considered if you are shortly expected to be awarded a PhD (in which case the initial appointment would be made as a Research Assistant on the Training Grade 7 salary scale (Spinal Point 25 - 28 £28,098 - £29,799)).

Background
Scottish Government has invested significant resource to develop and pilot new models of care through the Primary Care Transformation Fund (PCTF) Evaluation includes a set of mixed methods case studies in multiple health boards and a national quantitative analysis that will both provide quantitative analysis to each case study and a national overview of changes in health service use and satisfaction. This post relates to the latter, and will involve analysis of Scotland wide datasets relating to unscheduled care use, patient experience of and satisfaction with general practice, and quality of care in general practice. We are therefore looking to appoint a post-doctoral researcher with skills and experience of analysing large, complex routine healthcare datasets.

You will be based in the Population Health Sciences Division of the University of Dundee Medical School, which is based in purpose built accommodation in the Mackenzie Building on the Ninewells Hospital site. Your primary role will be data analysis, but the post will also require liaison with the case study researchers based in five other universities and attendance at the national PCTF evaluation monthly meetings held in Glasgow.

Qualifications and Experience

A PhD or equivalent higher degree in a relevant research discipline.
Experience and skills in quantitative analysis of large, complex, routine healthcare data using appropriate statistical software (e.g. SPSS, R, Stata, SAS). Your disciplinary background may be in statistics, health services research or another relevant discipline, but you must be able to demonstrate skills in managing and analysing large datasets.
Experience of effective collaboration with researchers from other disciplines.
Experience of writing papers for peer-reviewed publication as first author, as well as contribution to papers as co-author.
