  The German Cancer Research Center is the largest biomedical research institution in Germany. With approximately 3,000 employees, we operate an extensive scientific program in the field of cancer research.

  Postdoc

  Description:

  We have an open position for a postdoctoral fellow at the DKFZ Division of Translational Skin Cancer Research, located in Essen, Germany. We are a dynamic research group within the German Cancer Consortium (DKTK) that focuses on translational skin cancer research. Translational cancer research bridges the gap between laboratory-based science and patient care. Therefore we closely collaborate locally with the Department of Dermatology of the Universitätsklinikum Essen (Head: Prof. Dr. Dirk Schadendorf) and nationally in the DKTK Dermatooncology Task Force (headed by Prof. Dr. Stephan Grabbe). Our lab is equipped with state-of-the-art instrumentation in cellular and molecular biology and we have unrestricted access to core facilities within the DKFZ and on-campus at the University Hospital in Essen.

  The successful candidate will work with spontaneous, syngeneic, and patient-derived murine tumor models, the chick chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) model as well as complex 3D-culture systems to scrutinize the impact of cancer cells on the polarization of fibroblasts and macrophages. With respect to translation of experimental findings into the clinical situation, it has to be taken into account that analyses of tumor samples is both hampered by the limited amount as well the fact that it is generally only available as formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded sections. Hence, we established reliable methods such as nanoString-based miRNA, mRNA and protein detection, ImmunoSeq-based T-cell receptor clonotype mapping and multiplexed immunofluorescence-based phenotypic characterization for this material. However, in cases were native samples are available single cell RNAseq, TCRseq or CNV analyses are performed using 10X genomics technology.

  Your profile:

  We are looking for a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow interested in translational and multidisciplinary research in the field of dermatooncology. Preference will be given to applicants with previous experience in one or more of the following disciplines / areas of research: cancer biology, tumor immunology, systems biology, bioinformatics data analysis / statistics and/or imaging techniques.

  The successful candidate should hold a master and PhD in life sciences, bio-medicine, biology or similar scientific fields and should possess a solid research background in molecular and cellular biology.

  Fluency in both English and German with good written and verbal communication skills.
