Tasks and responsibilities
The group of PD Dr. Stephanie Roessler at the Institute of Pathology at Heidelberg University Hospital is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher.
Our laboratory is interested in the role of genetic alterations in liver cancer which is the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. We aim at identifying genetic and epigenetic alterations in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) which are functionally important. We have access to large patient collectives and have established human organoid cultures through collaborations with clinicians for hypothesis generation. To functionally test candidate genes, our laboratory has strong expertise in liver cancer mouse models, organoid cultures, molecular biology, cell biology (live-cell imaging) and computational analysis to delineate the molecular mechanisms of liver cancer development and progression with potential application towards targeted therapies. The project will focus on the functional characterization of NOTCH signaling in liver cancer progression and potential therapeutic options. Therein, our goal is to detect meaningful vulnerabilities for better pharmacological treatment of this aggressive tumor type.

We are looking for a highly motivated Postdoc with a background in molecular biology, biochemistry or tumor biology. Applicants must have a PhD degree or equivalent in Biology, Biochemistry or related fields. Expertise in molecular biology, organoid culture and microscopy is desired. We expect enthusiasm for science and strong work ethics.
