Postdoctoral Positions

The University of Chicago - Section of Gastroenterology

Postdoctoral Positions available in Microbiome and immunological interactions (Complex Immune Disorders; Single-Cell Omics; Cell and Tissue Imaging)

We are recruiting goal-oriented, creative, collaborative and highly motivated postdocs to use multi-omics assays and high-resolution imaging to study microbiome and cellular interactions in the context of complex disorders such as inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, Celiac disease, and colon cancer and obesity. We perform both bulk and single-cell genomic, epigenetic, transcriptomic, and proteomic assays to study the role of gut microbiome in shaping the immune system. We use the most advanced single-cell technologies, such as CyTOF, 10X, Drop-seq, Split-seq, and CITE-seq to dissect the role of microbiota in modulating immune cells to address important questions in immune disorders. Experiences in large-scale dataset analysis through the use of programming languages would be a plus. Complementarily, we also develop and apply cutting-edge imaging and microfluidic technologies to observe the interactions between the microbiota and the immune system, by direct visualization of molecular and cellular interactions at the single-molecule, single-cell, and tissue level. Our scope ranges from fundamental molecular mechanisms to clinical applications. We use mouse models as well as human samples for research with goals for advancing fundamental sciences as well as clinical applications. Our research is highly interdisciplinary and involves close collaborations between the Chang, Basu and the Huang labs at the University of Chicago. We encourage applicants with relevant experiences in immunology, microbiology, genetics, cell biology, molecular biology, bioengineering or relevant fields to join our team. Successful applicant is expected to have a PhD or MD/PhD with substantial research experience. Prior experiences with sequencing, flow cytometry, microfluidics, imaging and animal work are preferred but not required. The position will be supported on an NIH T32 training grant. Candidates must be US citizen or residents. For further information, please visit the Chang lab: https://changlab.uchicago.edu, the Huang Lab: https://ime.uchicago.edu/huang_group/, and the Basu lab: https://wordpress.uchospitals.edu/basu-lab/ at the University of Chicago. Our recent work published in Nature, Science, Immunity, Nature Immunology, PNAS, Cell Host & Microbe, Cell Reports, Nature Methods, and Science Immunology. Demonstration of excellent teamwork and collaborative skills will be highly desirable. Applicants should submit a CV including publication list, a letter of interest, and three academic reference letters to echang@medicine.bsd.uchicago.edu, onibasu@uchicago.edu and huangjun@uchicago.edu. The University of Chicago is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer advancing inclusive excellence. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, or other protected categories covered by the UC nondiscrimination policy.
