Postdoctoral Researcher – Tissue engineering and organs on a chip

'The Collaborative Innovation Center for Diagnosis and Treatment of Infectious Diseases' (CCID)

The Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials lab at OHSU School of Dentistry is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to develop organ-on-a-chip / microfluidic models of vascularized and mineralized tissues. The position requires a multidisciplinary background with past experience in stem cell tissue engineering, microfluidics, biomaterials and hydrogel synthesis. The aim of the project is to expand existing research using microfluidics techniques to engineer models of bone-targeting cancers (i.e. prostate & leukemia), bone marrow, and vascularized craniofacial/dental tissues, as well as to address various aspects of 3D biomanufacturing (i.e 3D bioprinting). The position is part of large multidisciplinary projects involving the Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research (CEDAR) at the Knight Cancer Institute, the Center for Regenerative Medicine (CRM) and the Department of Biomedical Engineering at OHSU.

  REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Biomaterials, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related field

  • Laboratory experience with stem cells, tissue engineering and organs-on-chip

  • Experience with hydrogel synthesis and characterization

  • Experience with in-vivo models of tissue regeneration and grafting

  • Techniques required include stem cell culture, mechanical testing, electron and fluorescence microscopy, biomineralization, immunohistochemistry

  • Ability to work independently and in a team-oriented environment

  • Able to conduct research in a multidisciplinary, fast paced research environment, occasionally with tight deadlines

  • Able to work independently, conducting biological and engineering related experiments with cells and biomaterials

  • Able to stand at a lab bench, sit at a microscope, perform laboratory manipulations, move and carry light lab equipment, perform image analysis experiments, operate computers and related software, communicate easily with co-workers and support staff, assist and instruct other lab members with scientific methods

  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation

  PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • PhD thesis on tissue engineering, microfluidics and previous experience with stem cells

  • Previous experience in-vivo models of bone regeneration

The Postdoctoral Scholar is a full time position with the salary aligned with NIHexperience levels ($48,432- $59,736) and comes with competitive medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits. This position is located in the CLSB just south of downtown Portland. *Please apply online at www.ohsujobs.com, then search using IRC73190.
