  Dedicated to helping those suffering from the debilitating conditions of the brain, mind and spinal cord, UTS’s Centre for Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine (CNRM) are spearheading ground-breaking new programs that will revolutionise the treatment of Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, mental health, MND, and spinal injuries.

  Led by Professor Bryce Vissel, the Centre is delivering results previously never thought possible, in line with its vision is to create a sustainable, world-leading hub of excellence.

  About the role

  We are looking for an experienced Neuroscientist with a firm understanding and insight into the genetics of Alzheimer’s disease that will enable you to conduct research that will elucidate the molecular mechanisms of the disease, and to investigate novel pharmacological approaches that may ultimately alleviate neurodegenerative, neuroinflammatory and behavioural alterations associated with dementia.

  You will be involved in the conception, design and performance of novel projects and experiments, in collaboration with your supervisor.

  You will undertake laboratory research both independently and as directed by Professor Vissel generating quality scientific data in a timely and professional manner with a view to publishing in high profile journals.

  The role involves working with mice and rodents in a number of paradigms including survival strategies, monitoring and sacrifice, as well as behavioural, surgical, anatomical, immunohistochemical, and molecular biological studies.

  About You

  We are looking for a Neuroscientist with extensive experience in rodent models of Alzheimer’s disease, and in studies of synapses biology and synapses loss.

  You will also have:

  • A PhD in Neuroscience or related discipline

  • A high level of knowledge in the field of neurodegeneration in Alzheimer’s disease

  • Successful leadership of research projects resulting in first author publications consistent with this experience

  • Extensive experience with animal research management, including colony maintenance and in vivo studies, as well as animal ethics and reporting

  • Experience supervising and managing students and research assistants.

  Remuneration & Benefits

  Base Salary Range: $105,021 to $124,298 pa (Level B)

  This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

  This position is full time and appointment is on a fixed term basis for 3 years.
