Postdoctoral Associate-Medical Engineering

A Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the Medical Engineering Program, Dept. of Orthopaedic Surgery at Western Michigan University Homer Stryker MD School of Medicine (WMed), for a highly qualified and creative scientist with expertise in tissue engineering, conductive polymers and 3D bioprinting. The Postdoctoral Associate will be actively involved in advancing the ongoing projects as well as developing new hypothesis-based projects and will have the opportunity to work with researchers and clinicians. The candidate should be an independent thinker with the ability to troubleshoot challenging problems with innovative ideas.

The successful applicant must have a PhD or MD degree in Biological/Biomedical/Bioengineering/Chemical Engineering, Biomaterials, Regenerative Medicine or related disciplines. A strong publication track record is a must.

For this position, prior experience in the fabrication of electrically conductive scaffolds and the application of electrical stimulation to enhance stem cell behaviors will be required. In addition, applicants with experience in one or more of the following areas will be given preference: cell culture and molecular biology, flow cytometry, fluorescent microscopy, design and assembly of synthetic DNA constructs, CRISPR gene editing, next-generation sequencing, and basic bioinformatic analyses, microfabrication of lab-on-a-chip devices, and a strong interest and potential to conduct interdisciplinary research. Applicants with prior expertise in fabrication and physico-chemical characterization of biomaterials will be given highest preference.

Responsibilities: The postdoc responsibilities may include but not limited to development of innovative hypothesis driven projects, experimental design, execution, and analysis, manuscript writing and reviewing, grant writing, lab management, and providing mentorship to junior colleagues.
