The Institute of Genetic Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking a highly-motivated post-doctoral researcher to conduct research on the identification and characterization of small molecule based-therapies for lysosomal diseases. The primary responsibility is the development of a high-throughput screening (HTS) assay to identify small molecules that are able to reduce the levels of sphingolipids in disease-cell models for lysosomal storage diseases. The trainee will work on developing a robust and innovative cell-based HTS assay and implementing against small molecule libraries. In addition, the postdoc will develop counterscreening and secondary assays. Lastly, the postdoc will characterize and validate the candidate compounds from the screening using cell lines from different patients and eventually animal models. Knowledge in mass-spectropmetry will be preferable. The post-doctoral researcher should have completed a PhD and/or MD degrees (PhD in the field of biomedical sciences). The post-doctoral researcher will interact with members of HTS centers and Mass Spectrometry Labs at Johns Hopkins. In addition, the postodoc will have the opportunity to work and interact with different leading researchers and trainees from the IGM and present their work at national and international conferences.
