A postdoctoral position in structural biology is available as of March 15th, 2016 in the laboratory of Dr. Aishwarya Prakash at the Mitchell Cancer Institute (MCI) part of the University of South Alabama in Mobile, AL, USA.
The laboratory is interested in studying complexes involved in the repair of mitochondrial DNA via the base excision repair pathway. More specifically, the lab is involved in studying the role of DNA glycosylases in the repair of the mitochondrial genome. The laboratory uses both biochemical and biophysical approaches to study the complexes formed during the base excision repair pathway in the mitochondria. Some of these techniques include in vitro binding, activity, and repair assays, multi-angle light scattering, X-ray crystallography, and SAXS. The laboratory will be equipped with a state-of the art X-ray diffraction unit and other shared resources available at MCI.
