A postdoc position “Scattering near-field optical microscopy at low temperatures” is open at the Department of Quantum Matter Physics (DQMP) of the University of Geneva. This project will focus on the development of a state-of-the-art cryogenic infrared scattering-type scanning near-field optical microscopy (SNOM) setup and using it for nano-optical and nano-plasmonic studies of strongly correlated electronic systems, superconductors, topological insulators, graphene and other 2D materials.
We are looking for a highly motivated and independently thinking scientist with a PhD degree in physics and a good list of publications. The candidate must have an extensive experience with a scattering-type SNOM(s-SNOM) and should have a strong background in solid state physics, quantum mechanics, and optics. Additionally, he/she should be familiar with Raman, photoluminescence and electrical transport measurements. An experience with cryogenic and vacuum equipment will be a strong advantage.
The candidate should have a profound knowledge of one of the CAD programs (Inventor, SolidWorks or similar), LabView and at least one of the programming languages such as C++ or Python.
The candidate should be fluent in spoken and written English. Good French will be an additional benefit.
The position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate students (about 20%).
